By now, I hope it’s obvious that I’m a prints kind of gal. One of my favorite prints is houndstooth, because I find that it’s super versatile. There is a classic quality about it that can be lacking in other print patterns. And depending on the size of the houndstooth, the item of clothing can be muted, or stand out a little more –which brings me to this outfit. I bought this skirt for all of $10 at the Buffalo Exchange in Georgetown. As soon as I saw it, I wanted it. It’s feminine, classy, and fun. I decided to pair it with a simple, flirty top; to complete the look, I added these flats with bows, threw on a thick belt, and off to work I sauntered!

As much as I love this patterned skirt, for some reason it’s always really difficult for me to find a shirt to complement it. And usually when I do find one, I’m never completely satisfied. Enter this shift dress. I’m all about remixing dresses into shirts by tucking them into pants or skirts, and dresses into skirts -with sweaters or shirts layered over them. I love the neon stripe detail on this dress, and think the asymmetrical stripes are a great touch. Not one to shy away from pattern mixing, and/or bright colors, I’m a little surprised it took me this long to pair these items together but I couldn’t be happier with the results. What do you all think, thumbs up or down?
The 4th of July is just around the corner and to prepare for that I thought I would do a business casual post featuring red, white, and blue. As you can read on my post here, I put a moratorium on shopping for the month of June because of how over-budget I was in May (thank youuuuuu Memorial Day sales); however…I wasn’t entirely successful. BUT I will say that I have been on the hunt for a pair of white pants for the better part of 2 years now. While I’ve come close to purchasing pairs in the past, none were ever quite right. While at Target last week though, I saw these pants and just couldn’t help myself. I love that these are a little cropped, that they are high-waisted, but more than anything I love that they are textured. So in anticipation of this upcoming holiday weekend, here’s my take of a business casual homage to these United States many of us call home. I can barely wait for the barbecues, beer, flags, and fireworks that await this weekend. Happy Tuesday everybody!
As you may have guessed from my past posts, I am a pretty big fan of florals. J Crew is known for its great prints, floral and not, so when I saw these shorts on J Crew Factory (which offers discounted J Crew items for those of you who don’t know) I purchased them right away. These shorts are crazy versatile; I’ve only worn them once, and received tons of compliments. Since DC is experiencing a torrential downpour today, I thought I would pretend to be back in my beloved California and create 3 looks with these shorts. Hopefully I’ll be rocking these looks in the coming summer months. What do you all think? Which do you (or don’t you) like best?
Lately, I’ve really been into simple and loose t-shirts – which is a far cry from the me of 2 years ago who would never have been caught wearing a t-shirt outside of the comfort of my own home. I wanted to go for a low-key outfit to wear out Friday night, so I chose this flag shirt, and tucked it under a mint lace skirt. To keep the outfit simple, I opted out of accessorizing, but I did still want a feminine detail, so I wore my lovely fuchsia flats, threw on a cross-body bag and headed out. The first stop was to a relatively new place in the Eastern Market called Smoke and Barrel, and for those of you who live in the area, I would definitely recommend it. The lighting was dim, the decor was fun, the beer was great and the bartender was super attentive and helpful. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance to try any of the bourbon or bbq, but I’m sure I’ll back soon enough!

Friday night’s outfit kind of set the tone for the rest of my weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday I wore loose-fitting tops, but styled them with printed bottoms to balance them out. What do you all think? Any outfit favorites from the three?
